Asus AC66U_b1 Temperature Cooling Mod

Recommended Posts

As you know from this thread

My 7 yr old router die a peaceful death.   i got 2 option  AC66U_b1 vs AC68U

66u B1 and 68u ihave the same hardware: i will list the more important one and the rest are too minor

the only main difference ac66u b1 vs 68U:

$173 vs $225

Fixed antenna vs removable antenna

horizontal vs vertical

No TurboQAM vs TurboQAM

i feel i could make a ac66u b1 (horizontal) to make it stand vertically just like ac68U without spending extra $50 and  with the help from my dead router i manage to get 10 degree cooling as i always love my electronics to be cooler

here my result and simple hack

Aiming to cool this huge heatsink

using the router stand from my old router and with the help of cable tie

LOL must turn on fan

I see other user temp with wireless on is about 70c to 90c

Heng I don't use wireless so I can switch off.

The reason I do this is to extend the life of the components by letting it be as cool as I can
